Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer holds no grudge against teammate Robert Lewandowski for not picking him but Cristiano Ronaldo in the World Player poll. Neuer told a news conference Wednesday at Munich's winter break training camp in Qatar that "it is legitimate that a striker votes for another striker. I have no problem with this." Neuer added Lewandowski's choice also showed that the poll is fair without any backroom dealings. Real Madrid and Portugal star Ronaldo was elected World Player a third time with 37.66 per cent of the votes from national team captains, coaches and media representatives, ahead of Lionel Messi (Argentina, Barcelona, 15.76 per cent) and German World Cup winner Neuer (15.72). The award ceremony was Monday in Zurich. The Poland captain Lewandowski came to Munich in summer from Borussia Dortmund. He was quoted as saying Tuesday that it was a mistake to pick Ronaldo ahead of Neuer and another Munich player, Bastian Schweinsteiger, but dismissed this later on Twitter. | |||||
