European champions Real Madrid are the world's richest football club for the 10th consecutive year, according to research by professional services company Deloitte LLP announced Thursday. Real had revenue of 549.5 million euros (636 million dollars) for the 2013-14 season to top Deloitte's 18th annual Football Money League report. The Spanish giants, who won a record-extending 10th European title last May, experienced a growth of 30.6 million euros from 2012-13 thanks mainly to increases in broadcast and commercial revenue. The report said Real are the first team to earn more than 200 million euros from broadcasting rights in one season (204.5 million). Manchester United rank second at 518 million euros, up 85 million from last season when they were fourth. German champions Bayern Munich (487.5 million), Barcelona (484.6 million) and French champ Paris Saint-Germain (474.3 million) round out the top five clubs. Premier League clubs Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool take up the next four places, followed by Italian champions Juventus. In total, the revenue for the world's 20 richest clubs reached 6.2 billion euros last season, 800 million more than the previous year, Deloitte said. |
