Norway's Fanny Welle-Strand Horn ambushed
the favourites in a sprint race on Friday for her first career
victory in the biathlon World Cup.
Horn, 27, hit all 10 targets in the shooting range and covered the
7.5 kilometres in 21 minutes 7.4 seconds. Horn had never made the
podium before in an individual race but has two relay wins.
Three-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva of Belarus also shot
clean but trailed by 3.4 seconds. Norway's Tiril Eckhoff was 9.8
seconds off the pace with one missed target.
World Cup leader Kaisa Makarainen finished seventh, missing a better
result with two penalty laps to finish 32 seconds behind the winner.
