 Wladimir Klitschko's heavyweight title defence
against Bulgarian Kubrat Palew next month has been called off after
the Ukrainian tore a muscle in training, his manager said Monday.
Klitschko suffered the injury to his left biceps Friday in sparring
at his camp at Going in Austria. The injury was confirmed Monday at a
hospital in St Johann in Tirol, manager Bern Bonte said.
Klitschko, 38, who holds the IBF, WBO and WBA titles, was to fight
33-year-old Palew in Hamburg, Germany on September 6.
He has been told to rest for four weeks before resuming training and
said he would like to reschedule the fight for November in Hamburg.
"I am extremely sorry for my fans and also for my opponent Kubrat
Palew who has prepared just as intensively as I have for this fight,"
Klitschko said in a statement.
