Munich's head coach Pep Guardiola
Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola on Friday heaped
praise on Bastian Schweinsteiger, David Alaba and Holger Badstuber as
the Bundesliga leaders completed their winter break training camp in
Qatar.
Badstuber and Alaba returned to team training from injuries at the
week-long camp while Schweinsteiger missed several months earlier in
the season.
Guardiola said he believed that the midfielder and Germany captain
Schweinsteiger "will be super" in the second half of the season which
Munich kick off on January 30 at Wolfsburg, who are second but 11
points adrift.
Guardiola praised the Austrian left back Alaba as "One of Munich's
most important players" and Badstuber as "one of only few defenders
in the world with so much quality."
Munich's injury list is becoming smaller, with captain Philipp Lahm
set to return in February from a broken ankle and midfielder Javi
Martinez likely the following month from a severe knee injury.
"It is to the coach to decide what is the best for the next game,"
Guardiola said, looking forward to having a big squad at his disposal
in the deciding weeks of the season.
Munich will fly home via Saudi Arabia and a Saturday game there
against Al Hilal, and Guardiola said that "we can work on other
things" when Munich start training behind closed doors at home again.
Apart from dominating the Bundesliga, Munich are in the last 16 of
the German cup and Champions League, and winger Franck Ribery
believes that another treble (as in 2013) is possible "although it
will be difficult."
