Former figure skating world champion Carolina Kostner
has been banned for 16 months by Italy's Olympic Committee (Coni) in
connection with the doping case of her ex-boyfriend, race walker Alex
Schwazer.
A Coni spokesman confirmed the saction to dpa on Friday. Kostner is
believed to have known of Schwazer's doping practices. Schwazer won
Olympic gold in 2008 but was caught doping just head of the London
2012 Games and banned three and a half years.
The 2012 world champion Kostner is not competing this season after
Olympic bronze 2014 in Sochi, and has not decided on her future in
the sport.
Kostner has protested her innocence, saying she knew nothing of
Schwazer's doping. The Gazzetta dello Sport paper said she will
appeal the Coni ruling before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
